Improving digestion

As an important nutrient absorption organ of human body, the health status of gastrointestinal tract is directly related to whether the body can maintain health. Due to the strong work pressure, fast-paced lifestyle, unhealthy eating habits and other factors, most people's intestines and stomach have been in sub-health state, and even have varying degrees of gastrointestinal discomfort, which seriously affects the quality of life. According to the survey, the number of gastrointestinal diseases in China is as high as 230 million. About 40% of them suffer from digestion problem for a long time. Nearly 70% of the residents suffer from gastrointestinal discomfort in varying degrees. The incidence rate of gastrointestinal diseases is as high as 80%.
Mushroom is considered to be a health food with homology of medicine and food. Modern scientific researches show that the mushroom is rich in polysaccharide, dietary fiber and other nutrients, which has the physiological activities of protecting the digestive system mucosa, improving the discomfort of gastroenteritis, regulating the intestinal flora, and has a good role and application prospect in the aspects of nourishing the stomach and protecting the intestines.
Hericium erinaceus, also known as Lion’s Mane mushroom, has a long history of usage in traditional Chinese medicine for intestines and stomach diseases. A lot of studies showed that Lion’s mane can improve and protect gastric mucosa damage, gastric ulcer and chronic gastritis, inhibit the formation of ulcer, reduce the area of ulcer, and promote mucosal damage and ulcer healing. Guangdong Institute of Microbiology ¹ did the research to investigate whether Hericium erinaceus (HE) is clinically effective in alleviating inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Researchers used HE extracts to feed rats with IBD for 2 weeks in. They found that the damage activity, common morphous and tissue damage index scores in colonic mucosa were improved and the structure of gut microbiota of the HE extracts-treated groups changed significantly by compared with the model group. The result demonstrated that HE extracts could promote the growth of beneficial gut bacteria and relieving IBD by regulating gut microbiota and immunity system.
In clinic, the Hericium erinaceus extract granules have been widely used in the treatment of digestive system diseases, and have achieved good clinical efficacy in the prevention and treatment of chronic atrophic gastritis, drug-induced gastritis and gastric mucosal injury, gastric ulcer, dyspepsia, ulcerative colitis and peptic ulcer. In Wuhan No.1 Hospital, Hericium erinaceus extract granules were used to treat ulcerative colitis, which were used in the treatment group. After two courses of continuous treatment, the results showed that the improvement rate of subjective symptoms in the treatment group was 90%, and the improvement rate of endoscopic ulcerative colitis was 95%, which was significantly higher than that in the control group ². The clinical efficacy of Hericium erinaceus extract granules on 166 patients with gastric ulcer was studied in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Southern Medical University. The treatment group was given routine treatment at the same time. The results showed that the total effective rate of ulcer healing and stomachache improvement in the treatment group were 92.9% and 97.6%, respectively, which were significantly better than those in the control group ³.
Hu 4 et al studied the therapeutic effect of Inonotus obliquus polysaccharide (IOP) on chronic pancreatitis (CP) in mice. The aim of this study is to testify the potential effects of IOP on gut microbiota composition and diversity in mice with CP. The results showed that IOP exerted pharmacological influence on CP related parameters in terms of increasing GSH-PX and TAOC level and decreasing TNF-α, TGF-β, lipase and trypsin levels. Meanwhile, IOP reduced the gut microbiota diversity and richness, decreased the relative abundance of Firmicutes, increased the Bacteroidetes at phylum level, and regulated gut microbiota toward a healthy profile at genus level
